Progress
Only Step One, where we made the 100
percent admission we were powerless
over alcohol, can be practiced with
absolute perfection.  The remaining
eleven Steps state perfect ideals.
They are the goals toward which we look,
and the measuring sticks by which we estimate our progress.
~Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p.68~
Sacrifices
"At the beginning we sacrificed alcohol.
We had to, or it would have killed us.
But we couldn’t get rid of alcohol unless
we made other sacrifices.
Big-shotism and phony thinking had to go.
We had to toss self-justification, self-pity,
and anger right out the window.
We had to quit the crazy contest for personal
prestige and big bank balances.
We had to take personal responsibility for our
sorry state and quit blaming others for it.
  Were these sacrifices?   Yes, they were.
To gain enough humility and self-respect to
stay alive at all we had to give up what had
really been our dearest possessions -
our ambitions and our illegitimate pride."

~~~~~
Without knowing it, had we not been brought
to where we stood by a certain kind of faith?
For did we not believe in our own reasoning?
Did we not have confidence in our ability to think?
What was that but a sort of faith?
Yes, we had been faithful, abjectly faithful to
the God of Reason.  So, in one way or another,
we discovered that faith had been involved all the time!
~Pgs. 53-54 - We Agnostics~
"Faith without works was dead, he said.
And how appallingly true for the alcoholic!
For if an alcoholic failed to perfect and enlarge
his spiritual life through work and self-sacrifice
for others, he could not survive the certain trials
and low spots ahead.  If he did not work,
he would surely drink again, and if he drank,
he would surely die.  Then faith would be dead indeed.
With us it is just like that."
~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, Bill’s Story, pg. 14~
tion is an automatic process
…and the thing that is most interesting is that
every single person without exception who
is living less than wanted things or every
single person who is reading about someone
who has lived unwanted things is putting a
new and improved version of that into their
vortex of creation, and the larger part of them
is already adhering to it, already a vibrational match to it.
SEEDS FOR THE GARDEN OF YOUR MIND
Live your own life
"We don’t always know what makes us happy.
We know, instead, what we think SHOULD.
We are baffled and confused when our
attempts at happiness fail…
We are mute when it comes to naming
accurately our own preferences, delights,
gifts, talents. The voice of our original
self is often muffled, overwhelmed,
even strangled, by the voices of other
people’s expectations.
The tongue of the original self is the language of the heart."
– Julie Cameron
"It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. …
I want to know what you ache for,
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing."
– Oriah Mountain Dreamer
"Let me listen to me and not to them."
– Gertrude Stein
